Cavan Ayaz Sullivan was born on 28th September 2009 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He was raised in a loving family, very much into soccer, which consisted of his parents, Brendan and Heike Sullivan, and three brothers. 

Cavan is of mixed race origin: His mother, Heike, is of German and Bangladeshi roots, and his father, Brendan, is of Irish heritage. Culturally, they keep their religion private as it is not mentioned in either their profiles or interviews. 

Growing up in the Philadelphia vicinity (including a relocation to Norristown when he was still small), he was surrounded by soccer from his earliest years since the whole family was deeply into the sport.

Cavan Sullivan became a member of the Philadelphia Union Academy in 2020 and rose rapidly through the ranks.

On July 17, 2024, he made his debut in the senior MLS team at the ripe age of 14 years and 293 days, he is the youngest player to play in a Major League Soccer match ever (he broke Freddy Adu’s record).

On May 9, 2024, he inked a professional deal with the Union along with a future contract to join Manchester City once he turns 18 (a new record for an American academy product).

In 2025–2026, Cavan Sullivan became a legend once more: he netted his debut senior goals and was on the receiving end of assists in Concacaf Champions Cup matches, turning out to be the youngest American scorer in the history of this competition.

He has been playing and starting games in MLS as well as in other tournaments, simultaneously demonstrating with his selection that he is already at a professional level, possessing his young age body control, insight, and technical skills.
