Career

Diego Luna biography

Diego Luna started his career by acting as a kid in Mexican telenovelas and films.

A big hit was Alfonso Cuarón’s Y tu mamá también in 2001, a film where he shared credits with Gael García Bernal, a road movie which was critically acclaimed and became a global arthouse hit, and put both its leading actors on the map.

He went on to act in Hollywood films such as Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (2004), The Terminal (2004), and had a small part in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004, deleted scene).

Along with Gael García Bernal, in 2008, they started their own production house, Canana Films, and have since been involved in producing award-winning movies such as Miss Bala (2011) and the documentary series Curados (2010).

With the feature film Abel (2010), he made his directorial debut and continued his film acting endowment with titles like Rudo y Cursi (2008), Casa de mi Padre (2012), and Elysium (2013).

It was in 2016 that Diego made a huge breakthrough by taking Cassian Andor’s role in the movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which he again played in the Disney+ series Andor (2022–present).

The latter, Andor, was praised universally by critics and had a mature plot, allowing for the excellent portrayal of the character by Diego.

Later on, in Narcos: Mexico (2018–2021), he took up the role of Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, and once again dramatized his acting capabilities.

Diego has been working on various high-profile projects in 2025–2026, including guest appearances, voice work, and producing through Canana and his other businesses.

At the same time, he is still very much involved in Mexican films, making socially and culturally relevant movies as a director and ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌producer.
